Throughout Lyondell, we have embraced a culture of safety that is based on the belief that all injuries can be prevented. Our Operational Excellence management system has helped us produce industry-leading results. Since 2001, Lyondell has ranked among the industry’s best in on-the-job safety.
In 2006, we achieved our best employee safety performance ever, with a recordable incident rate of 0.45, an industry-leading performance, based on the latest available statistics. Also in 2006, 26 of our locations completed the year without a single recordable injury, with eight of those locations having surpassed three years or more without a recordable injury.
Safety is a value at Lyondell. Our vision is for a workplace where there are no injuries or work-related illnesses. We address at-risk behaviors and hazardous conditions through effective health and safety procedures, total incident reporting and auditing assessments, as well as a simple and effective behavioral safety process based on employees observing one another’s work habits. We require that our contractors accept the same safety responsibilities, standards and training that apply to our employees.
