Lyondell Chemical Company supplies a complete line of aircraft deicing and anti-icing fluids to North America. Two types of deicing/anti-icing fluids are supplied by Lyondell; Type I fluid for deicing and Type IV fluid for anti-icing.
Benefits and Applications
Anti-icing fluids, Type IV, provide protection against the reformation of ice and the accumulation of snow or slush on clean aircraft surfaces for a certain period of time. Type IV fluids contain proprietary thickeners to enable the fluid to form a protective film on treated surfaces, providing holdover protection against ice formation and/or snow accumulation, yet shearing off the aircraft wing upon takeoff.
Properties
ARCTIC Shield™ anti-icing fluid meets the specifications of SAE AMS 1428.
- ARCTIC Shield is applied to a clean aircraft surface immediately after completion of deicing with ARCOPlus®/ARCTIC Plus®.
- Special thickeners in ARCTIC Shield anti-icing fluid coat the aircraft surface to prevent additional accumulation of snow or slush.
- The thickeners in ARCTIC Shield anti-icing fluid are designed to release or "shear-off" the wing during takeoff (before rotation).
