Lyondell has been a pioneer in the development of gasoline additives based on the tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) molecule. Since the 1970s, these additives have been incorporated into gasoline to help meet increasing standards for cleaner burning fuels. In order to meet the needs of our customers, Lyondell's product line now includes gasoline grade (GTBA), methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), and ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE).
ETBE is another gasoline additive produced from TBA. This material is produced with ethanol and has a lower Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) and better octane properties than MTBE.
